The dance form Bharathanatyam is a living exploration of being human. It is the oldest dance form of India and is said be over 2000years old. The form is known for its complex footwork and gestures well as its graceful and expressive movements.
Bharathanatyam is known for its intricate hand gestures (Mudras),which are used to tell stories and express emotions.These mudras are believed to be derived from the Hindu Gods andGoddesses, and each has a different meaning. The dancer also uses facial expressions and body movements to convey the emotion of the story. This art form is traditionally performed by women, and there are several layers of costumes and jewellery associated
with it.
Bharathanatyam is a traditional Indian dance that is steeped in tradition and cultural heritage. The dance is known for its grace, purity and sculpturesque poses. It is often used to convey Hindu religious tales and devotions.
Dance form such as Bharathanatyam was originally called temple dance was practiced by courtesans and a class of women known as Devadasis.
